Pretérito Past Tense

  • The pretérito tense in Spanish is used to describe past actions, actions with an specified beginning or end. This conjugation is most similar to the past tense we commonly use in English. For example, I cooked dinner today// Yo cociné la cena hoy

  • To do so, take out the “ar/er/ir” and replace with the following conjugations:

  • AR verbs are conjugated as, -é, -aste, -ó, -amos, -aron.

  • IR/ER verbs are conjugated as, -í, -iste, -ió, -imos, -ieron

  • For more conjugation practice, use resources such as Duolingo to get repetitive practice.

  • The past tense in Spanish is used to describe something that is happening currently in the past.To do so, replace with the following conjugations:

  • Usually conjugated as, -e,-aste,-aron,-amos,-aron
