Fruit and Vegetable Consumption

  • Introduction

    • promote health, support growth, and prevent risk of disease

    • Purpose: To assess fruit, vegetable, soft drink, and high-fat-containing snack consumption amount 5th and 9th grade children attending public schools on the Mexico-US border

  • Results

    • Average daily intake of fruits:1.5 for both grades

    • Average daily intake of vegetables : 2.5 for 5th grade students

    • % of children with intakes LOWER than the standard

      • Fruits: 77% (5th) 80% (9th)​
